Privacy Policy
Short version
I collect anonymous statistics via self-hosted analytics tool. I do not collect personally identifiable information (PII) and can not tell you apart from anyone else visiting this website, or whether you have visited before. The server software that serves you this website also gathers data in the form of technical logs, but these logs are periodically deleted by the system itself.
Longer version
The Data Controller (the person collecting and handling data) is Dlovan Salim (me), the owner and operator of this website.
I self-host the analytics tool (Matomo, open-source) so the analytics data that I gather is in my control and your data is never (and never will be) sold or handed over to any third-party. I do not place any cookies into your browser so I can not differentiate between your visit today versus tomorrow, to the tool (and me) your revisits might as well be different people visiting. I see numbers, not people.
So what do I collect: I anonymise the data to the point where I can't tell who is visiting, but where I can still gather info on how many people visit it in general and which pages interest people. I also gather statistics on whether people use mobile or desktops to view my page and whether people have a direct link or found it via a search engine. So the why I collect data question can be answered by summing it up with: I'm curious whether anyone is checking out my website, whether mobile phone is the only device being used to access my website, and whether my website appears in search engines.
My analytics tool is configured so that it doesn't gather any behaviour info, doesn't attempt to fingerprint, and doesn't store unique IP addresses of visitors.
The anonymised, aggregated statistical data (e.g. 400 visitors in February 2026) is stored for maximum of 180 days.
Furthermore, the server gets technical data from your device to be able to serve you this website (this is so with any website you visit on the web) but this is periodically deleted by the system itself and this data is not used for analytics. This data is used for troubleshooting in some cases and to identify any malicious activity targeting the website.
Under GDPR you have the right to request erasure of your data, but since the data is anonymised there is no personal data that can be singled-out from the analytics tool and erased. But, you can nevertheless find my contact details here if you want to discuss this privacy policy with me (the Data Controller).
